Social Call FAQs
What is Social Call?
Older adult participants, aged 60+, are matched with a volunteer for one-on-one, weekly visits by phone or video. Social connections make us all a bit healthier and happier!

How does Social Call work?
Social Call staff make thoughtful matches based on a variety of things like interests or hobbies and what interpersonal attributes you might be seeking in a conversation partner. Participants and volunteers complete an onboarding process. Volunteers also complete a background check.

Each week the Volunteer initiates a visit with their participant by phone or video-conference. Visits usually last around 30 minutes and are at mutually-agreed upon time. We ask volunteers and participants to commit to weekly visits for a minimum of 6 months. Volunteers and participants agree not to exchange money, provide services, or enter into legal agreements.

What if I have an appointment or will be out of town?
Please let your match know when you expect to be unavailable so that you two can reschedule for a later date. Communicate with Social Call staff if you have a last-minute scheduling conflict.

Do participants call the volunteer?
Social Call does not distribute volunteer contact information. Each week the Volunteer will contact their match at an agreed upon time.

Can a volunteer and participant visit in-person?
Volunteers and participants are not permitted to visit in-person.

Is there a cost?
Social Call is provided free of charge by Front Porch. Donations are gladly accepted to defray the costs of operation but are entirely voluntary. To learn more please call us at 1-877-797-7299 or email socialcall@frontporch.net.

Confidentiality
Staff and volunteers maintain confidentiality unless there are concerns or reports of abuse, neglect, or immediate threats of suicide or threats of bodily harm. If any of these concerns arise Social Call staff and volunteers are mandated reporters. If there is an observed medical emergency during a Social Call visit call 911.
Social Call Commitment
1. Volunteers commit to remain active for a minimum of six months and visit with their match once a week. Longer involvement is encouraged. The terms of this agreement will continue to be honored for the length of the volunteer s active involvement in the program.

2. If a volunteer is unable to continue calling their match because of a lengthy vacation, illness or personal emergency they should consult the Social Call staff, in advance when possible.

3. Volunteers maintain a firm commitment to professional conduct. All participant information is confidential. Information the participant shares with the volunteer is not to be shared with the participant s family members or friends unless specified by the participant. The address and other contact information of your Participant are strictly confidential. This same confidentiality applies to information shared among volunteers and staff members.

4. In consideration of potential liability concerns for you and Front Porch, volunteers and participants are not to enter into any legal arrangements or agreements like Power-of-Attorney, Executor, or Witness, etc.

5. Volunteers should carry out their role safely without limitations due to the use of alcohol, cannabis, or illegal drugs.

6. Any suspicion of elder abuse should be reported immediately to Social Call staff. By representing Front Porch, each volunteer, by extension, becomes a mandatory reporter of suspected elder abuse.

7. If a participant, in a crisis situation, does not agree to delay his/her intention to commit suicide the volunteer must dial 911.

8. Volunteers and participants are not permitted to accept or give financial gifts or loans. Small, non-financial gifts may be accepted according to the volunteer's sense of ethical appropriateness.

9. Within 48 hours of being advised that a match with a participant has been offered, the volunteer is expected to call the participant to confirm the match.

10. Volunteers agree to provide a report of monthly visits to their Program Manager.

11. Volunteers agree to attend additional training and on-going learning sessions or meetings.

12. Volunteers agree to notify the Social Call staff of any changes in their contact information or the contact information of their participant.

13. Volunteers give permission to Front Porch to use their photo and program feedback for promotional materials.

14. Volunteers pass and maintain a background check.

15. Volunteers agree that harassment or abusive behavior towards staff, volunteers or participants, as well as non-compliance with program guidelines, will be grounds for dismissal from the program.

16. Volunteers and participants agree not to visit each other in-person.

Can I annotate fields to indicate their intended use?

Yes. You can provide "Help" to your users for any field:

1. On any page in your application, click "Customize" then "Fields". If it is a multi-table application, select the table.

2. Click the "Edit" button next to the field for which you want to add an annotation.

3. In the "Help" text input box, enter text that will assist your users, and click "Save".

Your text will appear when the user hovers over or clicks on the question mark icon next to that field on the Add Record and Edit Record pages.

    When you bring additional fields into a conversion, Quickbase often finds inconsistencies. For example, say you're converting your Companies column into its own table. One company, Acme Corporation, has offices in New York, Dallas and Portland. So, when you add the City column to the conversion, Quickbase finds three different locations for Acme. A single value in the column you're converting can only match one value in any additional field. Quickbase needs you to clean up the extra cities before it can create your new table. To do so, you have one of two choices:

    • If you want to create three separate Acme records (Acme-New York, Acme-Dallas and Acme-Portland) click the Conform link at the top of the column.
    • If the dissimilar entries are mistakes (say Acme only has one office in New York and the other locations are data-entry errors) go back into your table and correct the inconsistencies—in this case, changing all locations to New York. Then try the conversion again.
